Cooking Tomorrow: Preparing Future Educators for a Rapidly Changing World

Francesc Balagué Puxan, CIB•Culinary Institute of Barcelona (Spain)

Abstract

In a world undergoing rapid technological and societal transformations, education must evolve to equip learners with the adaptability and critical thinking skills essential for the future. The increasing impact of artificial intelligence, as highlighted by Geoffrey Hinton, raises urgent concerns about
distinguishing truth from misinformation, fundamentally challenging the  traditional role of educators.
The World Economic Forum predicts that by 2027, 23% of current jobs will change, emphasizing the need for students to develop lateral skills rather than simply acquiring fixed knowledge. The Culinary Institute of Barcelona (CIB) embraces this shift by fostering an educational model that prioritizes
adaptability, creativity, and innovation. Unlike traditional institutions, where educators follow predefined pedagogical methods, CIB engages professionals from diverse fields, fostering a heterogeneous learning environment. Our approach includes forming a strong faculty community, continuous professional development, and methodological support. We also integrate adaptable
learning spaces and emerging trends to enhance pedagogical effectiveness. This paper explores these strategies and their implications for redefining teaching excellence in the digital era, emphasizing the necessity of a future-oriented educator training model.
