Mr Athos Charalambides is the founder and director of the «Emphasys Centre». The “Emphasys Centre”, is a successful Educational Centre, accredited by the Cyprus Ministry of Education and Culture that operates in the last 18 years in Cyprus. The “Emphasys Centre” operates as: an ICT Education and Vocational Training Centre, a Consultancy, Software and Support Centre in the field of ICT and a European Research Centre with specialized expertise in European cooperation and project coordination and management in the fields of education, training and youth.

Athos Charalambides has studied in the United Kingdom where he has obtained a Bachelor Degree in Computer Science and a Masters’ Degree in User Interface Design. After the completion of his studies he has worked for several years as a software developer both in the UK and Cyprus earning valuable work experience.

His passion for teaching and learning has led him to set up the “Emphasys Centre” specializing in ICT Vocational Education and Training” for learners of all ages with the aim to provide them with the key competences and skills in order to equip them to explore their potential and capabilities in reaching out to succeed in life. Based on the idea that “education is our passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to the people who prepare for it today” he created and currently managing a highly successful educational and training centre that caters for the lifelong learning of all citizens.

The high quality of his work in the area of education and training for young people, adults and professionals has been widely acknowledged, both for the high academic results in the Cambridge International Examinations (CIE), as well as for the success in the acquisition of professional qualification, such as the ECDL – European Computer Driving Licence. In the last six years his students have been awarded by the Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) in the «Cambridge Outstanding Learners’ Awards Ceremony» for achieving the highest mark in Cyprus for the GCE A’ Level Computing examinations.

His restless spirit and the success of the ICT Training Centre have led him to extend his expertise into the area of research, innovation and experimentation. His passion for quality, professionalism and development made him set up the “Emphasys Research Centre”. Through the world of collaboration, building of knowledge and skills alliances, mobility of policies and good practices he aims to enrich the quality and competitiveness of the educational and training services provided.
Athos eagerness to contribute to achieving the targets set in Europe 2020 Strategy for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth, while fighting youth unemployment, upgrading low-skilled adults, improving skills-mismatches for better career orientation and empowering young people with core employability and entrepreneurial skills have led him to initiate synergies and cooperation with various organisations in Europe. Through this cooperation he has gained great experience in the quality implementation and management of European projects for the development of useful products with great exploitation potential.
His work for promoting active ageing and intergenerational learning has been greatly acknowledged in the educational community in Cyprus and has initiated the awareness of the society for senior citizens.
Main areas of interests: Adult education, senior citizens and active ageing, upgrading and up-skilling the key digital competences of various groups (adults, young people, unemployed, NEETs, seniors etc.) through innovative e-tools and on-line training, games based learning, Vocational education and training in the field of ICT, youth policy, validation of non-formal learning, early school leaving, development of core employability, entrepreneurial and digital competences to empower young people for better skills match for the labour market.
