NICOLE ALBO-LOPEZ
Los Angeles Trade Technical Community College
Los Angeles, California, United States
As a leader in higher education, Nicole is committed to promoting and supporting the mission and vision of the American community college. Her goal is to build innovative, adaptive infrastructure that supports the attainment of access to higher education for all students. She believes in meeting students where they are, providing them with the resources necessary to be successful, and to lead by embracing learning as a lifelong process.
Nicole is a product of the community college. It was within the walls of Spokane Community College when she first discovered her abilities, grew as an individual, aspired to meet her professor’s expectations in the acquisition of knowledge and then realized her dream of graduating with a credential that would allow her to earn a livable wage.
The foundational ideology of lifelong learning that was pervasive at the community college, beckoned her later in life to continue her educational pursuits after a ten year career as a certified dental assistant. In 2003, she began working at Rio Salado College in Tempe, Arizona. While working at the college, she discovered it was her calling to not simply have a “job” in higher education, but to serve as a leader and educator in the community college system. She spent the past twelve years thriving both personally and professionally in Higher Education and is focused on creating an educational environment that embodies a unique culture of innovation, risk-taking, collaboration, and both personal and professional growth.
In her current role, Nicole serves a key member of the college’s cross-functional administrative team within the Academic Affairs and Workforce Development division at Los Angeles Trade Technical College. She is solely responsible for the operations of the following instructional support services and academic programs; Academic Connections, Tutoring, Basic Skills (including GED and Non-Credit English as a Second Language), Learning Skills, Mathematics, English, Behavioral and Social Sciences, Language Arts and Humanities and the University Transfer Center.
Nicole previously served as a faculty member and administrator at Rio Salado Community College in Tempe, Arizona and she holds a Master of Health Professions Education from Midwestern University (Glendale, Arizona). She is currently completing a Doctorate in Educational Leadership at Northern Arizona University (Flagstaff, Arizona) and is an education consultant with the American Dental Association.
Areas of expertise: Higher education, program development, distance learning, instructional technology, student development, leadership, curriculum design, adult education, program evaluation, staff development, academic writing, and faculty development.
