Răzvan Săftoiu, PhD, is a Professor at Transilvania University of Brașov, where he teaches courses in pragmatics, applied linguistics, communication and discourse analysis.
Răzvan graduated the Romanian-English programme of the Faculty of Letters and Sciences at the University of Ploiești (class of 2000) and the master’s programme in Applied Linguistics at the University of Bucharest. Since 2001, he has been teaching in higher education institutions as well as for private companies.
Răzvan received national and international research grants at the University of Bucharest (2001-2003), State University of New York at Albany (2005-2006), Transilvania University of Brașov (2007-2010, 2015-2017) and has been teaching Romanian as a Foreign Language for more than 10 years to international students coming from Asia, Africa, North and South America, Europe and the Middle East. Within the Romanian as a Foreign Language programme, he has been actively involved in teaching at all levels (A1 to B1) as well as Romanian for special purposes. Between 2013-2018, he has been a teacher in the programme “Learn Romanian in Romania”, coordinated by the Romanian Cultural Institute, and between 2015-2016, he has coordinated the project “Romanian Express”. The main purpose of this project was to facilitate the integration of foreign students who want to study in Romania by offering Romanian language courses, to familiarize them with various institutions that promote the specificity of the country as well as to design and publish 4 textbooks of Romanian for Special Purposes.
