Muna A. Balfaqeeh is an Assistant Professor at the Communication Department, Khalifa University and the Director of the Continuing Education Program at Emirates College for Advanced Education. Preciously she worked at the Petroleum Institute as Director of the Academic Bridge Program and then Dean of Students life. Between 2004-2013 Dr. Balfaqeeh worked as an assistant professor at the Department of Linguistics- UAE University where she taught Discourse Analysis, Language and Gender and comparative and sociolinguistics.
Dr. Balfaqeeh is primarily interested in researching discourse analysis and analyzing qualitative data, especially when it comes to national discourses. In her most recent publications, she has also concentrated on investigating the issue of teaching and learning higher order thinking skills, critical thinking and learning styles of foundation and freshman students here in the UAE and the skills they might need in their transition from High School to College. Both her experience in working with government schools and engagement in action research have led her also to investigate the transferability of higher order thinking skills across the different disciplines.
