Elisabete Mendes Silva

Elisabete Mendes Silva holds a PhD in English Literature and Culture studies. In her M.A. studies she specialised in English Culture, with a dissertation on George Orwell’s political essays. She holds a BA in Modern Languages and Literatures: English and Portuguese studies, as well as a teaching specialization in these two languages. She is an Assistant Professor in the department of foreign languages at the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança, Portugal, where she teaches English Language and Culture. She is a researcher at the University of Lisbon Centre for English Studies. Her main areas of interest include English culture, cultural studies, history of ideas, political thought, teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL), technology-enhanced language learning (TELL), and teaching English for specific purposes (ESP). Alongside her 23-year teaching experience, mostly in higher education, she has developed research in English culture, English didactics and language learning having published within those areas of study. She is an associate editor of the Anglo Saxonica Journal and a member of the editorial team of the EduSer Journal. She has been involved in several international projects within the Erasmus+ programme (e.g. Intact; AduLeT, TUT4IND CTwoSEAS). Currently, she is the scientific coordinator of the European project QuILL-Quality in language learning (2021-2023). (ORCID:
