Prof Mario Pace is an Associate Professor of Italian and Head of the Department of Languages and Humanities in Education within the Faculty of Education of the University of Malta. He is responsible for the training and formation of teachers of Italian as a foreign language. Besides language teaching methodology, his main areas of interest include second language acquisition, foreign language teaching and learning, and the teaching of foreign languages for specific purposes. For a number of years he was consultant to the Ministry of Education in Malta on the teaching and learning of foreign languages in compulsory education. He has participated in conferences both in Europe and the USA and is the author of several chapters in books as well as academic papers in peer reviewed journals. He is also the author of the book entitled Marco Largi ovvero Carlo Magri – drammaturgo maltese (1617 – 1693). Vita e opera published in 2018. He received the prestigious award of “Cavaliere dell'Ordine della Stella d'Italia" (OSI) given by the President of the Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella in recognition of his significant contribution towards the enhancement of the teaching and learning of Italian in Maltese schools and other educational institutions.
