Martha Alexander was born and raised in Raleigh, North Carolina. She received her undergraduate degree in Spanish and Pre-Medicine from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She later lived in Madrid, Spain for one year and received her Masters Degree in Spanish from Middlebury College. After Vice-Directing The Texas Tech University Center in Sevilla, Spain for two years, she returned to Chapel Hill, where she received her Ph.D. in Spanish from UNC Chapel Hill in 2010.
Her interests include Spanish Theater of the early twentieth century, Spanish and American art, Spanish architecture, foreign language acquisition, study abroad, and history of Spain and of the southeastern United States.
