Innovation in Language Learning

Dr Paula Rebelo Fonseca is an Adjunct Professor at the Polytechnic Institute of Viseu, where she teaches Business English and English for Tourism as well as Spanish for Tourism to undergraduate students. She is also a Visiting Professor at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, where she teaches English to undergraduate Dentistry students. She holds an international PhD degree in Advanced English Studies from the University of Salamanca (Spain) (2016). She holds a BA in Spanish and a Master’s degree in Teaching English as a Second Language both from Rhode Island College (USA). She also received a Master’s degree from the University of Aveiro (Portugal) in Language Teaching. She has been teaching English and Spanish as a foreign language in higher education for nearly 25 years. She has collaborated in a number of international projects related to teaching/learning foreign languages. She was part of a Portuguese team that devised a 12th grade English coursebook as well as a Teacher’s resource book for the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste. She has also participated in several international conferences presenting work in the areas of cognitive linguistics, multimodality and foreign language teaching/learning. She is currently a member of an international virtual exchange project on sustainability in the area of Web 2.0 technologies in Foreign Language Learning with Germany, the USA and Canada. Her research interests include Web 2.0 enhanced foreign language learning, technology in foreign language teaching/learning, cognitive linguistics, multimodality and political humour.
