Wong Ling Yann is a senior lecturer who currently working in the Department of Foreign Languages, Faculty of Modern Languages and Communication, Universiti Putra Malaysia. She is a coordinator for the Program of Bachelor of Arts in Chinese Language Studies. She obtained her Philosophy of Doctoral degree in Chinese Philology and Linguistics from Peking University, China in 2008.
During her PhD study period in the Peking University, she had been given an opportunity to Harvard University for collecting the Mandarin romanized publications produced by the western missionaries to produce her PhD thesis writing. Her main research interest is on the Mandarin sound systems noted by the western missionaries in bibles, dictionaries, teaching and learning Mandarin materials which published by the presbyterian mission press.
Ling Yann has joined Universiti Putra Malaysia since the year of 2000. During the 21 years as an academic staff in this university, she had been given many opportunities by this university to teach non-native Chinese adult learners to learn Chinese as a foreign language for four years (2001-2004). Most of her ex-students were from the multilingual background, their mother tongues were from Malay, Tamil or English, but zero knowledge in Chinese. From the teaching experiences in these past years, Ling Yann was aware teaching non-native Chinese adult learners to learn and master Chinese were not easy tasks, application of innovative teaching methods and pedagogies were important to be effectively practiced in Chinese classroom for guiding non-native Chinese learners to master Chinese.
