Developing Science Textbook Integrated STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) based on Local Wisdom to Improve Student’s Creativity

Abstract

Jember is a regency in Indonesia, which has the local potential in the sectors of natural resources in the form of commodity coffee plantation. Local potential, diversity of cultures and people’s habits forming a local wisdom. Local wisdom is very potential to be integrated into the teaching of science in schools. Local wisdom has many positive values ​​that have the potential to build the identity and character of the nation. This research is the development of instructional media in the form of an integrated science textbook with STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) based on local wisdom Jember. STEAM education aims to enhance the creativity of students to face the global competition in the 21st-century skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration and capabilities in the field of information technology. The element of art in STEAM education is very influential on students' creativity. Creativity is needed by the students, so that students not only have the ability in academics alone, but rather the ability to process and utilize the potential of the area they have. The design development of instructional media in this study using a model ADDIE (Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation). This study aims to measure student learning, the creativity of students and student response after being given textbooks STEAM integrated and based on local wisdom Jember. This study is expected to be an innovation in science learning to prepare Indonesian’s students to compete in the global competition of the 21st-century.
