How to Improve Hard and Soft Skills in Event Management Teaching – Assessment Methodology Study

Abstract

Nowadays, image is everything and when "seeming" is sometimes more valuable than "being", the importance to be given to these subjects becomes even more important. We must know how to use all the communication tools we can to convey the image of a successful and prestigious event. This paper intends to present a study about the importance of adapting assessment methodology to labour market requests and needs. As main goals we identify the following: to understand the importance of hard skills and soft skills on event management training; to explain the collaborative assessment methodology in the Event Management Curricular Unit; to identify the major advantages of the methodology for students scientific and technical knowledge acquisition. Methodologically, in the empirical dimension of our paper, essentially descriptive in nature, we try to explain all the assessment tools in use and how they help students on knowledge transfe. The present study analyses how collaborative teaching can be used in higher studies degrees, based on practical methods to help students to acquire the needed skills. The present study is based in 10 years teaching experience on event management, in the Secretarial studies and Administrative Assistance bachelor.
