Professionally-Oriented Training in the Russian Language for Foreign Students at Pre-University Preparation Stage

Nina Khamgokova, RUDN University (Russian Federation)

Abstract

One of the most important tasks at the stage of pre-university education of foreign students is the preparation for study at Russian higher educational institutions.  As a result, we feel that the formation of speech skills and abilities necessary to achieve cognitive and communicative goals in the educational and professional sphere of communication comes forward as the main task. The stage of pre-university training for students entering RUDN (Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia) in order to acquire a specialty begins at the Faculty of the Russian Language and General Subjects.  The Russian language plays a special role in preparing foreign students for study at Russian universities, since all subjects are taught in Russian.  With this in mind, foreign students are taught Russian as well as general subjects necessary for further education in higher educational institutions during the period of one year. Upon completion of pre-university training, each applicant must be fluent in Russian at level B1 and be able “to continue studying in Russian at universities in the Russian Federation, that is:

  • to speak Russian to such an extent that provides the opportunity to carry out educational activities in Russian and communicate in the educational, professional social and cultural spheres;
  • to master a system of subject knowledge necessary for continuing education at a Russian university;
  • to be psychologically prepared for educational activities in the conditions of a new social and cultural environment” [1].

Everything mentioned above justifies the importance of the methodological teaching principle, which provides for the construction of educational process aimed at solving problems of teaching the language system and speech communication related to students’ future professional activities.  The stages, means - educational-methodical complex, methodological techniques of professionally-oriented teaching of the Russian language (scientific style of speech) to foreign students will be described in the following paragraphs of the given article.

Keywords: professionally oriented training, specialty language, formation of speech skills and abilities, educational and methodological complex, system of exercises.
