Abstract

The use of biomaterials has been regular in technological areas and especially in the area of biomedical engineering. The selection of a biomaterial for a specific application has been fundamental. The ability to analyze the physical and chemical properties of a biomaterial is essential in the development of an application for medicine. Biomaterials can be classified according to their origin, mechanism of action and physiological behavior. Information on biomaterials was catalogued in order to present aspects related to physical-chemical properties, biological behavior and feasibility of clinical use. The chosen applications were biomaterials substituted from bone tissues, skin, and heart tissue, among others. The platform was developed to enable students through activities aimed at improving concepts and applications through the reading and discussion of scientific texts. The platform is a learning resource to assist the team of researchers with practical strategies for assessing student progress. In this investigation, the learning level, advantages, and disadvantages of various strategies are systematically analyzed.

Keywords: platform test, biomedical engineering, biomaterials, physical-chemical properties.
