Climate change poses significant challenges to agricultural productivity, especially among rural farmers in developing regions. Climate adaptive techniques (CAT) which include crop diversification, mulching, agroforestry, and water conservation are therefore important to enable the rural farmers overcome the challenges of climate change to increase their productivity. There are several studies done on climate resilience but there is a need to empirically examine how these new techniques are used in the rural areas for their development. Hence, this study investigates the awareness and practice of these CATs among rural farmers in Oyo State, Nigeria. Four research questions will be raised and answered.
The population for the study comprises all the farmers from all the rural communities in the thirty-three Local Government Areas of Oyo State. Using a descriptive survey method approach, data will be collected through structured questionnaires from a representative sample of farmers across selected rural communities in Oyo State, Nigeria through multi stage sampling technique. Quantitative data collection method will be used through the use of a validated questionnaire tagged “Awareness and Practice of Climate Adaptive Techniques among Rural Farmers” The data collected will be analysed using descriptive statistics of simple percentages and frequency counts. Recommendations will be made based on the findings of the research.
