Prof. Dr. Di Fuccia studied Mathematics and Chemistry at the University of Dortmund in order to teach at German grammar schools. During this period he has been scholar of the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes. His exam thesis dealt with recycling of electronic waste as a topic for chemistry lessons. After graduating he worked as scientific employee at the department for chemistry education at the University of Dortmund (Prof. Dr. B. Ralle). During this time he was part of the project team for implementing the context oriented chemistry approach “Chemie im Kontext” in Germany and did research in the field of diagnosing and assessing students by using lab work. In 2007 he finished his PhD-thesis “Lab work as a tool of assessment”, after that he worked as post-doc at the department for chemistry education at the University of Dortmund in the field of implementing aspects of diagnosis and individual support in science teacher education.
After being appointed to be assistant professor for chemistry education at the University of Kassel in 2010 he got the position of a full professor at the University of Kassel in 2012.
His main research-interests are ways of diagnosing and supporting individually in everyday teaching situations at schools and universities, the development of context oriented teaching approaches and the implementation of innovative teaching concepts. In his group at Kassel research is further done in the field of using mathematical models in chemistry lessons as well as diagnosing and fostering judgment competence in chemistry.
Prof. Di Fuccia is member of the management board of the German Grammar School Teacher Association.
