New Perspectives in Science Education

Cathlyn (Cat) Stylinski is a tenured research faculty member at the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science Appalachian Laboratory. She holds a Ph.D. in ecology and has over 15 years of experience in design, research and evaluation of environmental and science education experiences for public and K-12 audiences. Her research centers on public engagement in science. It includes studies on technology and science skill assessment in and out of schools, communities of practice, scientist outreach training, and integrating science and media-art education. She has also led education programming that integrates geospatial technology into schools, immerses volunteers in citizen science, guides students in schoolyard and watershed ecology investigations, and enhances pedagogical practices of teachers and informal educators. She has produced peer-reviewed education and science articles, curricular materials, evaluation reports, broadcast videos, and interactive media.
