Ines Schmidt studied Mathematics and Chemistry at the University of Dortmund in order to teach at German grammar schools. Her exam thesis dealt with out-of-school learning in science education. Since graduating in 2010, she worked as scientific employee at the department for chemistry education at the University of Kassel (Prof. Dr. David-S. Di Fuccia). She is currently working on her PhD thesis “Mathematical models in chemistry lessons”. This research project is funded by the Fonds der chemischen Industrie.
Her main research-interests are therefore ways of using mathematical models in chemistry lessons as well as diagnosing students’ problems with mathematical modelling in chemistry. In addition, she focuses on evaluating and developing out-of-school learning environments and on the development of context oriented teaching materials.
