Brett Moulding

Brett Moulding is the director of the Utah Partnership for Effective Science Teaching and Learning and director of the Council of State Science Supervisors’ Building Capacity for State Science Education Project. He is member of the leadership team for the Next Generation Science Standards and served on the Board on Science Education for the National Academy of Sciences from 2005 – 2011. He was a member of the NRC Committee that developed A Framework for K-12 Science Education: Practices, Crosscutting Concepts, and Core Ideas. He is a member of the National Assessment of Educational Progress science committee.

Brett graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor’s Degree in chemistry and obtained a Master's of Education Degree from Weber State University and an Administrative Supervisory Certificate from Utah State University.

Brett was the State Science Education Specialist and Coordinator of Curriculum from 1993 to 2004 and then the State Director of Curriculum and Instruction for the Utah State Office of Education until 2008. Prior to going to the Utah State Office of Education, he taught chemistry for 20 years at Roy High School in the Weber School District and served as the District Science Teacher Leader for eight years.

Brett is the Director of the Council of State Science Supervisors’ Building Capacity for State Science Education program that brings together 46 states in common planning and capacity building around implementation of the Next Generation Science Standards and instruction consistent with the vision for science education presented in the National Research Council’s Framework for K-12 Science Education.

Brett has received the Governor’s Teacher Recognition Award, Award for Excellence in Public Service in Science and Technology, The Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching, The Tandy Technology Educator Award, and the Utah Life Time Achievement Award in Science Education.

The most recent of his publications is the book on elementary science education, A Vision and Plan for Science Education, he co-authored with Rodger Bybee and Nicole Paulson. Due to be released in the Fall of 2014.
