Mary Kelly

Mary C. Kelly is currently pursuing a Masters in Counselling and Psychotherapy at the Irish College of Humanities and Applied Sciences, whilst taking a sabbatical from working in Professional Development, Distance/Remote Learning Coordination, and Science and Humanities Teaching within the International Baccalaureate international school system.

Mary graduated in Biochemistry and Education Studies from the National University of Galway, in Ireland, and later pursued a Masters in Science Education with Curtin University of Technology in Australia, followed by a Doctorate in Teacher Education with Nottingham University. Mary is also certified with the Principals Training Centre, and she has completed Higher Education Teaching Certification, and Advanced Certification in Educational Leadership with Harvard University.

Mary has worked overseas in a number of international school environments, across Europe, Africa, and Asia. Whilst doing so, she also carried out research in a number of areas, including on the ontological and epistemological beliefs of teachers, teachers views on practitioner research, students’ perspectives on technology integration in schools, as well as international students perceptions of science and science. In addition, she has been a coordinator of ICT, she has coordinated whole school Collaborative Peer Development programmes, and she has been instrumental in the development Jane Goodall’s Roots and Shoots programmes across schools.

Mary is an expert in the design and implementation of inquiry-based programs, for students and educators, within the international school system. She also has an in-depth understanding of teachers training needs in the areas of Universal Design for Learning, Design based Education, Theories of Knowledge, Action Research, Worldviews, and the inclusion of Grand Narratives in program development.

In association with the Association of Teacher Educators of Europe and the European Commission Mary has carried out research into the characteristics of innovative teachers as a member of the Research and Development Committee that explores the Professional Development of teachers.

As a professional mindfulness trainer, and professional coach, Mary provides also trainings for international professionals, students, and teachers in the area of attention management, stress reduction, and wellbeing. In addition, she is currently carrying out research that explores the worldviews of counsellors, and the ways in which these worldviews influence practice.

Mary’s publications focus mainly on ontological and epistemological beliefs, and she has been published through IGI Global.
