Convergence of Instructional Technologies and Future Directions for Open and Distance Education

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to investigate the convergence of industrial technologies and provide future directions for open and distance education. In the study, new learning ways and suggestions on open and distance learning was revealed from the opinions of open and distance education field experts and presented by discussing the convergence of advanced instructional technologies. Qualitative data collected in two steps from 10 field experts. Some of these most important possible future directions was determined as Internet of Things (IoT), Smart Homes, Semantic Web (Web 3.0), Smart Cities, Virtual Reality and Hyper Connectivity. Most of these possible directions are closely related to open and distance education. The approach, which can go out of the traditional structures and aspires to provide instructional service to learners with a flexible platform and tools with today's advanced technology, is open and distance learning. Therefore, the convergence of advanced instructional technologies and future directions was considered within the context of open and distance learning.
