Abstract

The subject is included in the discussion which focuses on alternatives to educational practices relating to the teaching of Environmental Education. The project we have chosen to research drew our attention specifically to problematic practice strategies of environmental education teaching in the Brazilian public education system. This extension project is entitled “Reactivate: places, natures and cultures”, ran by teachers, researchers and technicians from the Universidade Federal de Goiás – UFG. This project focuses on the environmental impact process derived from a huge migration phenomenon that takes place in Aparecida de Goiânia (city located in Goiás, a state in the center of Brazil) which emphasises the lack of transparency of the knowledge and the nature models practices, historically built from deep social and environmental relations in their original places due to the imposition, by media mechanisms, of models of life in the service of "capitalist world system". The theoretical basis of the critiques of the environmental education teaching process made by the Project, as the proposals for new teaching methodologies in this area, are anchored in the concepts generated by the study group called Modernity/Coloniality. The question that motivates us is to identify what is and how are the pedagogic practices and the teaching methods used in the Reactivate Project seeking to give visibility to knowledge and nature model practices. Although we find ourselves at the intermediate stage of research, the result we can share is the one that outlines how these methodologies can give visibility to the subjugated knowledges
