Farzad Jafarkazemi, South Tehran Branch, Islamic Azad University (Iran, Islamic Republic of)

Abstract

It is the aim of this paper to introduce an e-learning tool which is developed for teaching refrigeration, either as a university course or for self-study.

The motivation for this research is lack of animated information in common textbooks and the benefits which may be gained through interactive multimedia training. Author's experience of more than fifteen years teaching refrigeration shows that combining textbooks with animated graphics and the ability to do some interactive tasks increases the learner’s capabilities, considerably.

The paper starts with a brief review of current methodology for teaching the refrigeration course in universities either as a theoretical course or a theoretical course accompanied with experiments in the laboratory.

A literature review is then made on other e-learning courses developed for the same subject and by other researchers. The innovations of the current tool will be highlighted.

A short introduction will also be made on the structure of the multimedia tool and the methodologies used within the software development.

Finally the multimedia e-learning tool will be introduced in detail with examples showing its capabilities.

As the author is aware, there are few, if any similar tool for teaching refrigeration.
