Learning Styles and Reading Comprehension Skills among Secondary Students in Cotabato City

Abstract
This study investigated the relationship between the learning styles and reading comprehension Skills of secondary students in Cotabato City. Six learning styles such as visual, auditory, tactile, kinesthetic, individual, and group derived from Dunn’s learning styles model were the independent variables, while the reading comprehension skills in terms of understanding vocabulary in context, getting the main idea, noting details, making inference, predicting outcome, and drawing conclusion were the study’s dependent variables.
The survey questionnaire on students’ learning styles and reading comprehension skill test were utilized as instruments.
There were 356 fourth year secondary students from public and private schools in Cotabato City who were determined using multi-stage sampling as respondents of this study.
The statistical tools used were the mean, standard deviation, quartile deviation, Analysis of Variance, and Pearson r.
The findings of the study revealed that the learning styles were demonstrated by the secondary students occasionally. The study showed also that there is no significant difference in the learning styles of secondary students. Furthermore, the reading comprehension skills of students are satisfactory which were also determined strongly related to their learning styles.
