Professor Maria Markova Maria Markova is a full professor in University of national and world economy, Sofia, Bulgaria. She is doctor of science in intellectual property – economics and rights; with a professional experience in patent attorney and as a court expert in intellectual property cases. The area of her expertise is wide: higher education, copyright, economics and management of intellectual property; intellectual property rights in design, biotechnologies, advertising, publishing business, technology and knowledge transfer.
Prof. Markova has achieved master degree in Economics and Marketing in 1989 and in Law in 2008. In 1998 she achieved a PhD degree and in 2024 – Doctor of Science in Economics in Intellectual property. Since 1997 to present she has been working at the University of national and world economy at responsible academic positions. For a period 2002- 2010 she is an academic coordinator of WIPO university initiative for Bulgaria and for the period 2010- 2012 she coordinated the EPO's initiative ‘Dissemination of IP knowledge in universities’ for Bulgaria. She is an active member of many professional organizations in intellectual property, higher education system and research in the field of intellectual property, law and marketing as follows: ‘International association of teaching and research in intellectual property – Geneva, Switzerland’, ‘Association of intellectual property – Bulgaria’ and ‘Association in industrial design and advertising“ – Bulgaria, „Association for innovations and development“ – Bulgaria, consultant of more than 100 Bulgarian companies in intellectual property fields, court expert in intellectual property field. She is a scientific coordinator of the project of fundamental research on a theme „Conceptual model of intellectual property in the company digital competitiveness“ in Bulgaria.

Prof. Maria Markova has been working as a researcher in intellectual property rights, company design, biotechnology and advertising resulting in the following main books: “Protection of industrial design in the country and abroad”, Patent Office of the Republic of Bulgaria and OHIM, 2008; Design management, Publ.
