Tony Barlow is a Senior Lecturer in Mental Health at Birmingham City University, an institution that serves the heart of the country. Specifically, he works in the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences and is involved in the training of students to complete a degree in Nursing in order to become a registered professional.

Tony graduated as a Mental Health Nurse over 20 years ago, studying at the University of Huddersfield and became a Staff Nurse working in an acute care setting in Birmingham. Following this he moved into a community setting in a managerial position before returning to the acute setting again in a managerial setting. From this position, he became a lecturer at Birmingham City University and soon gained a senior lecturer post.

Tony is a reviewer for a variety of publishers and helps to assess potential for new books as well as reviewing published work.

Tony has studied at a variety of institutions and holds masters degrees both in nursing and education, a degree in mental health, a teaching qualification and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

As well as teaching students to become registered nurses, Tony is responsible for the training of health professionals in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. His research interests lie in auditory hallucinations and psycho-social interventions.
