Jenny Wells is an associate professor in the Department of Special Education at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. She has been faculty at the University of Hawaii at Manoa since 2005.
Previously, Jenny was employed by the Hawaii Department of Education (1989-2004) in various special education teaching and administrative positions, overseeing the implementation of appropriate individualized educational programs for students with severe behavioral and learning needs. She also provided coordination of statewide training in educational interventions for students with autism for three years in Hawaii.
Jenny is experienced in successful teacher preparation grant management. She has served as the Principal Investigator for two personnel preparation grants funded by the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs. Both projects prepared special educators in a Master’s in Special Education with an autism specialization.
She was a member of the national panel of expert reviewers for the Evidence-Based Practices Update Workgroup (2012), National Professional Development Center on Autism Spectrum Disorders. She is also a member of a multi-departmental workgroup that developed a Literacy Specialist Certificate program at the University of Hawaii at Manoa to prepare teachers to be literacy leaders in their schools.
Dr. Wells teaches the following graduate courses: Special Education Law and Compliance, Introduction to Applied Research, Adaptations and Special Procedures for Severe Disabilities/Autism, Principles of Behavior, and Advanced Language and Literacy.
