Anastasia Misseyanni is an Associate Professor of natural sciences and environmental studies at Deree - The American College of Greece (ACG). She presently also serves as Head of the Department of Science and Mathematics at Deree.
She holds a Chemistry degree from the University of Athens and graduate degrees in Biochemistry: a D.E.A. from the University of Paris 7 and a PhD from the University of Marburg.
She joined Deree-The American College of Greece in 1991. In her long career in teaching, she has developed and taught a large number of undergraduate natural science and environmental studies courses. She has contributed to efforts of ACG to become an environmentally sustainable institution as advisor to the Deree Environmental club and the Deree Environmental Studies Society and as chair of an ad hoc Green Campus Committee. She coordinated the development of the Deree Environmental Studies program and has served as program coordinator in the period 2010-2014. Since fall 2014, she serves as Head of the Department of Science and Mathematics. She teaches chemistry, environmental science, ecology, water resources and methodology for the environmental studies program.
Anastasia has conducted research in the fields of protein-DNA interactions and hormone-regulated gene expression. Her current research interests cover a broad spectrum, from molecular biology of genetic diseases to issues of Mediterranean biodiversity, green roofs and sustainability initiatives in higher education. She has also been active in the scholarship of teaching and has engaged in efforts to promote active learning in her classes.
