Country: France

Alexandra Bac is an Associate Professor at Aix-Marseille University – Polytech Marseille Engineering school and a researcher in the LSIS Laboratory in the field of 3D geometric modeling.

After a wide curriculum in theoretical physics, Mathematics and computer science, Alexandra graduated from Ecole Normale Supérieure in Lyon. She then decided to turn towards logics and obtained her PhD in the Mathematical Institute of Luminy from Marseille University in 2001.
Since then, she went on working as an Associate Professor, across different fields of science. More precisely, since 2004, her research focuses on 3D geometric modeling and applications (ranging from geology to forestry and environment).

As a teacher, Alexandra is involved in theoretical teachings for computer scientists and hence, she has long been interested in innovative pedagogies.

Her current research focuses on 3D geometric modeling. Her works articulate around three axes:
1. 3D Modeling through continuous surfaces and especially meshes (the application of those works gives rise to a collaboration with the French Institute of Petroleum)
2. Modeling forested areas using LiDAR technologies. Those works involve collaborations with specialists in ecology, forestry, ecology, geomatics and are carried out in collaboration with the French Institute of Pondichery, the University of Sherbrook, the French office for forests (ONF) and the IRD.
3. Computational topology for discrete geometry (more precisely, this work is at the borderline between Mathematics (algebraic topology) and 3D modeling. They are conducted in collaboration with Seville University.

In parallel, Alexandra practices a martial way, Aikido, which probably influenced her works in pedagogy and teaching, and contributed to her pedagogical experiments such as cooperative pedagogy or the implementation of moduli about knowledge of human beings directly in the Engineering training.

Alexandra is an expert with Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR) since 2007.

Areas of expertise: Computer science, Geometric modeling, Mathematics, Logics and Security, higher education, personal development as an ingredient of education.
