Deb L. Marciano, Ph.D. Deb L. Marciano, Ph.D. is a Professor of Elementary Education at Valdosta State University in Valdosta, Georgia, USA (https://www.valdosta.edu). She has taught at the elementary school and university levels in Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Georgia (USA), and guest taught in Valle d'Aosta and Marano sul Panaro, Italy. This background enhances her work with teacher candidates, providing practical, hands-on experiences from the field. Her courses include connections across academic content and creative methodology, as well as utilizing children’s literature and the arts to enhance students' creative and critical thinking.
Deb frequently presents at local, state, national, and international education conferences, and served a three-year appointment as a reviewer on the International Literacy Association Children’s and Young Adult Book Award Committee. She has published in international journals
She has led study abroad programs in Italy, researching approaches and practices of Italian early childhood education, arts integration, and community as teacher. She has presented and published with students on their educational discoveries in Italian classrooms. She is currently developing a note-taking tool to enhance meaning-making between course material and students’ prior and knowledge application. Her courses reflect activities to assist teacher candidates to deal with stress relief in themselves and their students to enhance conditions for learning.
