Dr. Chi-Cheng Cheng was born in Taipei, Taiwan, Republic of China, in 1959. He received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in power mechanical engineering from National Tsing Hua University, Hsinchu, Taiwan in 1981 and 1983, respectively, and the Sc.D. degree in mechanical engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, MA, USA in 1991.
Dr. Cheng has been with the Department of Mechanical and Electro-Mechanical Engineering of National Sun Yat-Sen University in Taiwan since 1991. He is currently the Vice Dean of College of Engineering. He was the Chairman of the Department from 2014 to 2016. He is also an adjunct professor with the Institute of Undersea Technology and College of General Education of National Sun Yat-Sen University. He was a Visiting Scholar in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of University of British Columbia in Canada in 2002 and a Visiting Professor with the School of Engineering Science in Simon Fraser University in Canada in 2009. He was the Dean of Office of International Affairs of National Sun Yat-Sen University from 2007 to 2009.
Dr. Cheng has published more than 150 technical articles in refereed international journals, conferences and book chapters. He has won the Excellent Research Award from National Science Council of Taiwan in 1998, 2001, and 2002. He was the convener of members committee of the Solar and New Energy Society of Taiwan and a publication committee member in the Chinese Ocean & Underwater Technology Association in 1995. He also served a deputy secretary-general in the Program Committee of the 21st National Conference on Mechanical Engineering of the Chinese Society of Mechanical Engineers in 2007. He was a member of the Program Committee of the 4th International Conference on Mechanical and Electrical Technology (ICMET 2012) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia 24-26 July 2012. He was the general chair of the 14th International Conference on Automation Technology (Automation 2017), Kaohsiung, Taiwan, 8-10 December 2017. He was an invited keynote speaker at the 2nd International Conference on Intelligent Technologies and Engineering Systems (ICITES 2013), Kaohsiung, Taiwan, 12-14 December 2013 and the International Conference on Robotics and Machine Vision (ICRMV 1016), Moscow, Russia, 14-16 September 2016. He received the best paper awards in the International Conference on Signal Processing and Imaging Engineering, World Congress on Engineering and Computer Science 2007, San Francisco, California, USA, 24-26 October 2007, the International Conference on Computing and Computer Vision (ICCCV 2011), Kathmandu, Nepal, 1-2 July 2011, and the 19th International Conference on Higher Education (ICHE 2017), Copenhagen, Denmark, 17-18 August 2017. He has been a member of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) since 1987. He has also been a senior member of International Association of Computer Science and Information Technology (IACSIT) since 2011.
