Daina Grasmane is Assistant Professor of Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies (LLU, in Latvian).She has graduated in Foreign Languages from the University of Latvia (Riga) and, after graduation, has been working at LLU up to date. She holds a PhD degree in Educational Sciences.
She has been the Head of Languages Department for 10 years, an associate professor for 12 years, and is a co-author of the study programmes External Relations of Organisations and the Master programme Project Management, which was designed in 2006 together with some experts from the University of Surrey, Great Britain.
Daina Grasmane has been a member of the expert team ``Team Europe`` of the European Commission Representation of Latvia (in Riga), a member of the editorial boards of conference proceedings: “New Dimensions in Developments of Society” and “Students on their Way to Science”, a member of steering committees of many international conferences and seminars held at LLU, and a reviewer of the journal US-China Foreign Language, published in the USA.
She has developed close co-operation in the field of higher education and research with the University of Limerick, the University of Surrey and the University of Tokushima (Japan).
Owing to the research grants awarded to her by the Nordic Council of Ministers, she has conducted research studies at the Stockholm University (Sweden), and at the Bergen University (Norway). She has also been awarded several international mobility grants: to visit the University of Portsmouth, the University of Surrey, and the Pixel Association (Italy). She has also made visits to Denmark, Germany, and the Ukraine for professional development.
Daina Grasmane has coordinated many voluntary educational projects at the local, regional or international levels implemented in close co-operation with the French and Canadian Embassies (based in Riga), the EC Information centre ``Europe Direct`` (based in Jelgava), the NGO for children with special needs ``Svetelis``, and several secondary schools in Jelgava. She also managed the Latvian project team, participating in the European project ”Internationalization of Work Based Learning in Agribusiness Sector”, coordinated by the Pixel Association (2016 -2018).
Her research findings have been published in Great Britain, Sweden, the USA, Spain, Switzerland, Latvia, Lithuania, and Italy. She has given contributions at international conferences in Germany, Great Britain, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Lithuania and Latvia, and has also run research seminars in Norway and Denmark.
Main areas of expertise: development of international and national educational projects, intercultural cultural competence and training.
