Elena is a PhD student in the Curriculum, Teaching and Learning department at the University of Toronto, Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE). She is a graduate of the Master of Teaching program at OISE and a Certified Ontario teacher (general science, biology and chemistry).
Elena’s background is in science: veterinary medicine (PhD) from a university in Moscow, and food safety (MSc) from a Canadian university, and she has over 15 years’ teaching experience at school and university level.
Her interests in science education include experiential learning and an exploration of the use of a Learning Community approach in science classroom: how students improve their scientific literacy and develop their understanding of the Nature of Science, work with real-life case studies, participate in scientific argumentation, and build their career identity.
