Nathalie Zechner has been working at the University of Klagenfurt at the Faculty Center for Sign Language and Deaf Communication (ZGH) since 2008.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education and Educational Sciences at the same university and completed a Master of Arts in Social and Inclusive Education. Her master's thesis focused on the prolonged identity formation of hard of hearing individuals due to their impairment. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Education on the experiences and challenges of hard of hearing and deaf school children in Austria.
Nathalie specializes in hearing impairment, deafness and Austrian Sign Language (OEGS). She is continuously active in the field of hard of hearing, and her research also includes the educational barriers of hearing- impaired people in Austria.
Since 2019 she is a lecturer at the University of Klagenfurt. In order to promote professional exchange and networking, Nathalie has published several articles on the topic of hearing impairment. A publication on hard of hearing pedagogy is currently in progress.
She has worked on several EU projects, such as Sign On One, Sign lef, Deaf Language Awareness, Spread the sign 360. Current projects are Spread the sign - Sign languages for beginners in Europe and ISENSE.
Her passion: helping people with good hearing to overcome their insecurity in dealing and communicating with hard of hearing and deaf people.
