Dr Carla Enslin is the head of academics at Vega School. IIE-Vega* delivers qualifications in design, brand communication and business studies. Carla co-designed and implemented Graduate, Honours, Master’s and Doctoral programmes at IIE Vega and has been involved in the training of it’s students since the school’s inception in 1999. She now leads the academic, research and partnership strategies of the school on 5 campuses and is involved in the management of the school’s Master’s and PhD programmes, supervising students pursuing studies in strategic thinking and creative brand leadership.
Carla is also an elective teaching fellow on brand building in emerging markets at the Graduate School of Business at the University of Cape Town (UCT GSB) where she trains MBA students from various international business schools. Carla’s corporate training and consulting projects range from southern African countries including Lesotho, Zimbabwe and Namibia to Kenia, Zambia, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Mauritius, and Nepal.
Carla’s academic research explores innovative learning and teaching practices in the training of students for the strategic and creative industries. Carla’s PhD thesis investigated the role of disruption and alternative brand contact planning in marketing communications. Her brand research is predominantly focused on identity, alignment and meaningful brand leadership. Carla’s brand-logic stems from a school of thought that views ‘brand’ as a social construct and brand strategy at its core as uncovering and delivering on such singularity. From this perspective, a brand, strategised responsibly, represents and delivers meaning that adds value to people’s lives. Ideally it serves, engages, and unites all its stakeholders or constituents in the sustained experience of its unique value.
