Dr. Silvia Marijuan is Associate Professor of Applied Linguistics in Spanish at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo; She is originally from Argentina where she worked as a professor of linguistics at the University of Buenos Aires. She received her PhD in Spanish Applied Linguistics from Georgetown University, Washington DC. Dr. Marijuan has experience leading study abroad programs both in Spain and in Argentina.
Her research focuses on the interaction between internal and external factors in the development of Spanish as a second and heritage language in different learning contexts. Other research areas in which she works are international education, study abroad, the development of intercultural understanding, and the promotion of diversity, equity and inclusion in higher education. She has published in Second Language Research, Foreign Language Annals, System and for Routledge and Georgetown University Press.
