Kylie is a trained K-12 Physical Education teacher, K-6 generalist teacher, and Sport Scientist. She began her career as an outdoor educator for the New South Wales (NSW) Department of Sport and Recreation, followed by several years teaching K-12 for the NSW and Australian Capital Territory (ACT) Departments of Education. Concurrently over a six-year period Kylie coached various sports at a private metropolitan girl’s school, in addition to working as a sport scientist with the New South Wales Institute of Sport (NSWIS) and Mayne Health Solutions.

Prior to commencing at Western, Kylie held the dual position of Sport Science Discipline Lead and Lecturer at the Australian College of Physical Education for degrees in Dance, Coaching, Movement Science and Physical Education. During this time, she also completed her Doctor of Philosophy supervised by Professors Roger D Adams and Collen G Canning at Sydney University in motor learning.

Broadly, Kylie’s research and teaching expertise focuses on human movement behaviour with a focus on the factors that influence performance and how performance can be improved or modified. She primarily explores these processes and factors in relation to but not limited to menstruation, visual perception, cognition, creativity, and observational learning. This research is frequently carried out within sport, general, and special populations, with a growing focus on women in sport.

Kylie is also an experienced higher degree researcher, supervising over 30 honours students, and several Masters and PhD students in human movement science with an emphasis movement observation, menstruation, dynamic team sports, elite sports, and more recently, play and practice, psychological safety in team sports, and team sports and leadership. Furthermore, Kylie has numerous publications in peer reviewed journals and has presented nationally and internationally at numerous conferences.
