Fifth Generation (5G) Approaches to Language Teaching Learning

Abstract

In the 21st century, ICT is acting as a role of catalyst in disseminating knowledge by aiding in the teaching, learning and research activities of the higher education institutions. The teaching-learning process is going through a transition in the new age society. The technological developments have transformed the way people access and consume information. There have been continuous changes in the education system all over the world, especially in the curriculum reforms, adoption of innovative teaching and learning methods, development of newer learning materials, and adoption of learning methods beyond the syllabi and so on.  The technology has transformed the traditional classrooms with the integration of new tools and technologies in teaching that help students to learn virtually and deliver targeted information to them effectively. This leapfrogging of education in the present era can be called fourth industrial revolution. In Indian context, teaching learning of all branches of knowledge is updating with ICT. World class higher educational institutes are enhancing the technology interference in their course of teaching.  Massive Open Online Courses, IIT and IIM’s FDP programmes, Community Radio’s, and teacher training programmes conducted by the Human Resource Development Centers. It strongly encourages student and teachers to seek online education resources.  Especially, in language teaching it plays very crucial role where an individual would have a choice in determining how they want to learn, choose the learning tools. Students will become more independent in their own learning, thus forcing teachers to assume a new role as facilitators and guides.
