In 2008 Ekaterina took part in a Macerata University project regarding the transition period in the Eastern European countries and in 2011, after a long empirical work and a one month stay in Warsaw, she received her PhD in “Systems Theory and Sociology of Normative and Cultural Processes” with the research topic: “Analysis of the impact of mass media on legal cultures in Eastern European countries (Poland, Romania, Bulgaria and the Czech Republic) before and after EU accession”.

In the same year, Ekaterina spent a month at Harvard University in USA, exchanging experience at the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures.
In 2009 she re-published a new edition of her second textbook for Italian students entitled “Melodia della lingua russa” (Aracne Editrice, Roma).
