Memory: a Multidisciplinary Approach to High Level Classroom

There are various important and complex problems that involve phenomena and concepts in the science. They need to be revisited to a better understanding when a interdisciplinary strategy is applied. Typical problems examples are involving Public Healthy, Climactic changes and among others. In the interdisciplinary perspective students explore and integrate multiple views from different disciplines [1]. The selection of a complex problem or question to a High School lectures connects students in the excitement of scientific investigation and discovery, and show the importance of the scientific effort, and contribute to their further involvement in science education. The development of motivating lessons takes a great deal of time and effort and a rigorous planning. Nowadays, the ability to know when information is needed, how to find it, how to distinguish good information from bad, and how to use it correctly is a precious skill generally referred to as scientific literacy [2]. This ability is essential in interdisciplinary lectures. It is common to talk about barriers or obstacles that must be overcome for teachers to acquire an inquiry approach to teaching. There is a new perspective to classroom. In fact, they have been discussed what is the teacher role? Teacher acts as coach and facilitator in the multidisciplinary activities varying instructional methods, providing a work of appropriate difficult, providing guided practice to students, examining responses and deliver immediate corrective feedback and student needs interprets, explains and find hypothesis. The main work to student correspond to emphasizes reasoning, reading and writing for meaning, solving problems, building from existing cognitive structures, and explaining complex problems [3].

This interdisciplinary study is based in the memory concept. The activities proposed are based in the incorporation of hand-on projects, independent studies, virtual learning, and tutorials. This work was developed to be applied in High School classroom. The theme selected involved Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Natural Sciences are incorporated in the lectures with the objective of include a multidisciplinary approach.

The study was conducted by five questions: 

1. What is the memory? How information is processing in the brain?

2. What are chemical reactions that occur in the brain and what is the relation with the memory? 

3. What is the internal capacity of human memory? 

4. What is the main difference when compared with a computer?

5.  What is the relationship between memory and Alzheimer disease? 

As a result of this work, a didactic sequence was proposed and distinct activities were discussed.
