Compilation on Metacognition Concept

Abstract

The aim of this study is to analyze the post-graduate dissertations which are prepared on metacognition concept in Turkey during 2005-2013 according to several dimensions. This study was carried out with documentation and analysis of them. The data of this study is obtained from 55 post graduate dissertations which are searched by metacognition keyword. These post graduate dissertations have been analyzed in terms of aim, type of the study, year of the study, method and the results obtained.   It has been determined in the studies that most of the studies on metacognition concept are master’s degree dissertations and they were written mostly in 2012. Experimental method is mostly used in this study to determine one’s metacognition skills and metacognition learning strategies. In the studies which were analyzed, it is found out that lessons which are carried out by using metacognition concepts method are more effective on the level of metacogniton skill levels of students and also it is found out that these metacognition strategies improve academically success. At the end of the study, it can be said that according to analyzed thesis Turkish Education System is sensible about metacognitive subjects and concepts.
