New Perspectives in Science Education

Introdution: The cooker who prepares food at school and serves students has crucial importance, because during the period that the child is in public school, all the food she will receive will be produced by her. For the cooks produce good meals nutritional quality, they need to know the food groups, the nutritional needs of each age group and the proper techniques to prepare. In Santo Antonio de Jesus city, the cooks need to calculate daily the amount of each ingredient that will make the meal served. Given the level of education and the difficulties presented by them during the execution of the project "Flavonoids in school meals", which hindered the calculation required for meals served to students reached adequate nutritional parameters aimed to create an application for mobile telephony that could calculate all the ingredients for the cooks. Objective: Develop an application for mobile telephony that could calculate all the ingredients of all revenues for students from public schools in Santo Antônio de Jesus, as an innovative tool for distance education. Method: A survey was conducted to identify the level of education and the existence of the Smartphone type phones in schools. After analysis, we created the application, which was made available to the cooks at the annual training. Results: The level of education found was low, with 80% of the cooks possessed handset type Smartphone, enabling the use of the application. During the demonstration of use, all the cooks reported ease of use and are committed to using the new tool. Conclusion: The developed application proved to be valuable and important strategy for distance education, since every day the cooks will be using a device to assist in the fulfillment of the tasks performed in schools interactively and efficiently
