Abstract

The utmost goal of doing STEM projects is to extend students’ understanding of science, math, engineering and technology. According to America's business leaders in the TAP Report*, there needs to be an increase in "the annual number of U.S. science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. With this in mind, Green Heights American International School launched a STEM project initiative in mid and high school in order to expand the knowledge base regarding STEM education in Cairo and get students to realize that STEM projects can solve real- life problems outside the classroom and help them in their future career. Project ideas were selected to match Virginia academic standards and the learning needs of students in these grades. Teachers used an inquiry based approach and followed clear guidelines and rubrics to evluate the students’ projects. The presentation will explain the steps taken in order to implement the STEM education approach, a display of the students’ STEM projects and the impact the whole initiative has on the learners.
