Shannon Wright Sahabi

Shannon Wright Sahabi is a high school science teacher in San Antonio, Texas, United States, and doctoral candidate in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at Texas Tech University. She is currently completing her doctoral dissertation, The Effect of Global Collaboration Projects on High School Students’ Achievement and Global Mindedness in AP Environmental Science.

Shannon graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 2002 with a B.S. in Applied Learning and Development, the University of the Incarnate Word with an M.A. in Multidisciplinary Sciences, and Mississippi State University with an M.S. in Geosciences.

Shannon has taught almost all grade levels, ages 12-18, for the last 15 years, and is currently teaching Earth & Space Science, Physics, and Advanced Placement (AP) Environmental Science.

Shannon has led professional development in the areas of Differentiated Instruction and 21st century skills, and has presented at national conferences on Global Collaboration projects, assessments, and PBL. Shannon was one of two high school science teachers in the U.S. to receive the PASCO STEM Educator award through NSTA, and was a semi-finalist for the Albert Einstein Distinguished Educator Fellowship in 2017. She most recently was accepted to be a Solar System Ambassador through the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) at NASA, which is a volunteer position to bring earth and space science to the community.

Upon completion of her Ph.D., Shannon looks forward to working in academia in science education.

Areas of research interests: global collaboration projects, assessment, effective science professional development, 21st century skills implementation in the science classroom
